- Photographers, Musicians, Seamstresses
87% of children brought up in Austin’s low-income neighborhoods will enter kindergarten behind readiness levels.
When children start kindergarten behind, they are likely to stay behind for the rest of their lives.
Most of our families are low-income and are using government-subsidized childcare vouchers in their transition from welfare to work. These subsidies only pay about 60% of real costs. Private contributions help close the gap between costs and public reimbursements.
The very things that make Mainspring Schools so effective at helping families become successful and independent are the things that are expensive:
- Low student-to-teacher ratios.
- Well-educated teachers.
- Support for the whole family.
- Healthy meals.
- Art and music programs.
